How many of you have flown to Australia, not just 13,000 miles, but 13,000 miles in a microlight, when you are blind?! Miles Hilton-Barber, a 58 year old pilot finally arrived in Sydney Australia on the 30th April 2007, 55 days after taking off in a microlight from a UK airfield.
“Their flight took them over deserts, forests, mountains and seas and they battled with high winds, rain and snow storms in order to reach Sydney. You can read all about these adventures in the blog diaries.” - http://www.seeingisbelieving.org.uk/microlightadventure/
Aided by talking instruments and computerised sensors, Miles also flew with a sighted co-pilot, with the intention of raising money for a charity for the blind - Seeing Is Believing (see the link above). A tremendous example to a lot of people in his situation, Miles should be commended for his courage and determination to complete the flight. Currently they have raised a whopping $61,705 for the charity, and donations can still be made from the website link above.
Not only is Miles an inspiration to people who are blind, he is an inspiration to everyone - congratulations Miles, looking forward to hearing about your round-the-world trip next!
